Year 5 Make a Noise changed

For the last few weeks there have been some unusual sounds coming from the music room, as Year 5 students have each had the chance to learn a brass instrument.  Mrs Stevens has kindly arranged for Mr Foster, brass expert from Rugby School, to teach them how to play cornets, P bones and baritones.  They have been learning a selection of tunes, including Jaws, Rocketship and Chiefs.

Most students had not had the opportunity to play a brass instrument before.  They started by ‘buzzing’, practicing the lip movements that produce the sound through the instrument.  Then they ‘buzzed’ through the polished mouthpieces, and finally they got to play tunes on their instruments.

This opportunity has impressed students and families like.  Sue Smith said: ‘My grandson thinks Wednesday morning is the best – starting with Music! Thank you so much BJS.’
